RV inspections are independent third-party assessments of RVs, usually carried out by licensed RV inspectors as opposed to vehicle mechanics. That’s because RVs are more complex than that. RV buyers can request one of two types of inspections: a Level 1 examination, which is a basic safety and cosmetic check, or a Level 2 inspection, which is a more in-depth pre-purchase inspection. National organizations train, certify, and link professional RV inspection services with RV buyers or sellers.
Mandatory State Inspection
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in your state may require this basic RV inspection as part of the annual registration process and fee payment for your RV. The operating safety of the RV as a vehicle and adherence to weight limits or emissions regulations are the main concerns of the state inspection. The procedure is comparable to an automobile’s yearly state inspection.
Essential (Level 1 Type) Inspection
An Essential RV inspection looks at the features and state of the RV in addition to making sure it’s safe to drive. In addition to physically inspecting the RV and its components, the inspector will check the amenities and systems to make sure they are in good operating condition. About 4-5 hours is needed for the visual inspection process, with an additional 4 hours (approximate) to complete the written report.
Premiere (Level 2 Type) Inspection
Though it’s sometimes called a pre-purchase examination, the Premiere RV inspection includes all essential areas but is far more thorough with additional information provided. Obtaining fluid samples for laboratory analysis from a variety of car and recreational vehicle systems may be purchased as part of this inspection. The analysis procedure can be completed during the inspection, and receiving the lab findings could take 5-7 business days or up to two weeks. About 8-10 hours is needed for the visual inspection process, with an additional 4-6 hours (approximate) to complete the written report.
